The outdoor area

AMAZONIA, the outdoor area of Tropical Islands open all year round: 35,000 square metres, numerous water attractions, extensive sunbathing and sports areas as well as wellness, sports and recreation facilities for the whole family.

The Whitewater River

In addition to a pool landscape with several swimming pools, the Whitewater River - a 250 metre long wild water channel - is a special highlight. Its like a slide; adventure lovers can flush down through the wild water into the Mar Dulce, the large pool. Don't miss out on Germany's longest whitewater river when you visit AMAZONIA, this wet fun is truly unique!

surface area: 400 square metres wide

250 metres Length

unique in Germany: jet-stream channel, different branches, slopes

approximate height of 2,5m

Tropical Islands has made it possible: now you can surf here in the Tropics. In the resort's outdoor area AMAZONIA you can surf the waves like on a holiday in Hawaii - but right here in Brandenburg, just outside Berlin! The new attraction goes by the proud name Pororoca, which means “great roar”. The Pororoca phenomenon occurs once a year in the Amazon River. At full moon, usually around March or April, a tidal bore rolls in from the ocean up the Amazon River, pressing against the current. The waves can be up to four metres high, making this a mecca for surfers.”

The Whitewater River and the Pororoca are a declared sport unit. It´s only suitable for swimmers, from an age of 8 years forward, use at own risk.
We reserve the right to temporary closures due to weather conditions or repairs at any time.

How to surf in the Tropics

The good thing about it is that you're outdoors where you can feel the wind on your face, so don't forget to apply waterproof sunblock when the sun is strong! What you won't need is professional equipment like a leash to secure the board and boardbag. The Pororoca can reach an impressive size, but one thing's for sure: you won't get lost on open water.
The summer is here and when you're surfing the waves good vibes are guaranteed - as well as a refreshing cool down every now and then.
Learning the technique is easy. Before you hit the waves you watch a short training video and a trained member of staff provides instructions. Then you're ready to plunge into the waves. A little tip: lying down or kneeling on the board is easier.

The Pororoca surfing machine uses the physical principle of the standing wave. An artificial wave is created in a specially padded pool, and you can do bodyboarding lying on your stomach, for example. The wave can be set to different levels of difficulty, for example for children and beginners or for advanced surfers. Naturally our trained staff are always there to keep an eye on things. The use of a surfboard, and a neoprene suit if needed, are included in the price of surfing.
